Degree Program

The Coastal & Ocean Engineering Program at Oregon State University is a comprehensive curriculum of graduate studies and research leading to the degrees of Master of Science (M.S.), Master of Ocean Engineering (M.Oc.E.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The program is administered by the School of Civil and Construction Engineering and has strong ties with the College of Oceanic & Atmospheric Sciences and the College of Science.

The M.Oc.E. program requires a thesis (6-12 credits) and is typically completed in two academic years. A minimum of three additional years of study is needed for highly motivated students to complete the Ph.D. program.

As an alternative to the M.Oc.E. degree, a student may elect to obtain a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and major in Coastal & Ocean Engineering. This is a non-thesis option that requires project research-in-lieu-of-thesis (3-6 credits) and may be completed in less than two years. Both these Master's degrees require a minimum of 45 graduate credits; including the thesis or project.
