Dear Workshop Participant,

We are pleased that you have accepted our invitation to participate in the NEES Tsunami Facility Usage and Tsunami Modeling Workshop on July 27 and 28 in Corvallis, Oregon.

As part of the George E. Brown Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) consortium, the workshop will provide travel and lodging support up to $1,000.  If you anticipate costs exceeding this amount, please contact me directly.

Registration, Hotel Accommodation, and Travel

The workshop will begin with registration at 8 am on Thursday July 27 and will end with a summary and recommendations at 5 pm on Friday July 28. There is no cost to register for this workshop. Continental breakfast, coffee breaks, and lunch will be provided. 

A block of rooms have been reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2500 SW Western Blvd. Corvallis under the title of “NEES Tsunami Workshop.”  Please contact the hotel directly for reservations (541) 752-5000 by June 24. 

Because of the restrictions with NSF/government airfare, we ask that you book airline tickets through Monique Cohen at Azumano Travel (mcohen@azumano.com) (541-757-9792).  The expenses will be billed to the workshop directly.  Please contact me if this is presents a problem. 

Portland (PDX) is the largest major airport, approximately 95 miles from Corvallis.  Commercial shuttle service is available between PDX and OSU (e.g., www.hutshuttle.com).  Unfortunately, the workshop can not reimburse for rental cars. 

Venue and Participation

The workshop will be held in the Kelly Engineering Center located on the central campus.  A campus shuttle will provided transportation between the hotel, workshop venue, and the O.H.  Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory.

All participants will be asked to make recommendations for future use of the tsunami facility, particularly by promoting collaborative use of NEES tsunami facility, large physical model, data, and the integration of numerical simulations.

To OSU/Hilton from Portland Airport (95 mi, approx 120 minutes by car): Take I-205 to I-5 South. Take Exit 228 heading west to Corvallis. Take Hwy 34 Bypass (follow signs to "Oregon Coast") and turn right on 26th street. Hilton is on the corner of 26th and Western.
